We are at concert week! Can you believe it??!! It seems like just yesterday we were starting sectionals.....it definitely goes by quickly!
This week is our 'dress rehearsal'. What does that mean? Do you need to wear your concert outfit? NO!!!!! You do not need to wear your concert outfit! But if you have new shoes you'll be wearing for the concert, it might not be a bad idea to wear them just so you see how you do with them walking on the risers!
This week we have the risers, so it kind of changes the scope and dynamic of the whole thing! A few key things to remember:
- Always use the handrails as you go up the aisle. Go up the side, and then you'll walk across to where you will stand.
- Stand to the front of the riser. If more space is needed, stand on an angle, toward the center.
- Stand facing front when we finish until it is time for your row to move.
- Carry your book on the right side (I HOPE I'm right about this!) BUT when you get to the handrails, make sure that you have your hands free on the side of the rail.
- BE PATIENT! We always have to make some adjustments, so just be patient as we figure things out!
- Norma will be leading this plan, so please pay attention to the instructions!
- While on the risers, make sure you keep your knees flexible. Don't lock them.
- If you feel faint while on the risers, just work your way toward sitting down right where you are standing!
By now you should have your music in concert order. As a reminder, here it is:
Grand Singers:
- This is America!
- Cindy
- Y'all Come
- Hey, Good Lookin'
- Do Lord, Remember Me
Chorale:
- Yankee Doodle
- I Can't Believe You're in Love with Me
- Singin' in the Rain
- Land of Our Dreams
- The Star-Spangled Banner
Grand Singers:
- Battle Hymn of the Republic
- Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor
- We Shall Overcome
- Old Time Rock and Roll
- God Bless America
Don't forget to warm up on your way to rehearsal! Chorale, please be in your place on the riser by Chorale, by 12:00. Grand Singers, arrive by 12:15 and we'll get onto the risers a few rows at a time, so find a seat to get started. We'll get ourselves situated, and then we'll practice walking off. Once off, we'll get ready to start a complete show run-through. I'm anticipating that we'll be ready to start the 'show' by 12:30-12:35. That's my goal!
